Several of us at Skoda Minotti Strategic Marketing attended last week’s HubSpot Inbound 2014 Conference in Boston. The seminar was filled with 10,000 talented marketers, designers, CEOs and IT folks from other companies around the globe who are dedicated to learning about the ever-changing world of marketing.
Make no doubt – inbound marketing is where your company’s marketing efforts should be headed.
What is Inbound Marketing?
While traditional “outbound” marketing requires your team to go out to get a prospect’s attention, inbound marketing draws visitors to your website through the use of interesting content your prospects want to read (or see).
You Should be Helping, Not Selling
There was one resounding message we heard throughout the conference:
Let online content attract and help your prospects, and do most of the selling for you.
The idea of helping was so widely discussed because many consumers are now more than halfway through the buyer’s journey before even contacting a vendor. They want to find the information they need online, and they may avoid buying from those vendors who don’t provide it to them.
Let’s Look at Your Site
Do you have the information on your website that will allow your prospects to:
- Find you in the top results of a search?
- Learn what they need to about their desired product, instead of leaving them guessing and needing explanations?
- Answer all of the questions and concerns they have?
- Build trust with you and want to do business with you?
- Facilitate meaningful conversations when they’re getting ready to buy?
A Deeper Dive into Inbound Marketing
To help drive that point home, here’s a great article that we read on the HubSpot blog recently, which speaks to the new age of selling in greater detail.
