On Dec. 17, 2015, the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) Board of Directors reached a milestone, holding their 100th meeting since its establishment in 2007. The 11 board members, including Skoda Minotti’s Ken Haffey, represent the interests of Ohio workers, employers and the public at large, and meet once a month to lend their professional expertise.
Since the board was created, premium rates have seen a significant decrease. The private sector rates are more than 20% lower than five years ago, and the public sector rates are the lowest they have been in more than 30 years.
The BWC has also tripled its safety grant program to $15 million annually, and is investing millions to better train firefighters and fund university research on a myriad of safety topics.
Ken Haffey, CPA, CVA, CGMA, was recently interviewed by the BWC blog to reflect on his time as a board member. Haffey has served as chair of the Audit Committee since 2007 and is the only licensed CPA on the board.
