In 2001, Mazzella Lifting Technologies (Mazzella) was an $11 million company. Its leaders sought to pursue growth, and they approached Skoda Minotti for assistance.
Mazzella began working with Skoda Minotti in 2001. From the beginning of this relationship, we initiated proactive and ongoing dialogue with Mazzella’s leadership to understand the company’s unique business challenges and goals, and from that, we developed a plan alongside them to help guide their growth. Specifically, Skoda Minotti helped Mazzella develop the right capital structure, helped develop people in the correct roles, created a customized acquisition strategy and set up beneficial financing relationships.
Conventional wisdom might suggest that a strategic acquisition within Mazzella’s core lifting market made perfect sense, but Mazzella and Skoda Minotti thought more broadly as well. So long as a target company was well-run by solid management and offered tangible opportunities for growth, Mazzella was willing to consider it. As a result, in 2004, Mazzella completed the acquisition of Sheffield Metals International (Sheffield), a leader in the distribution of coated and bare metal products, as well as engineered standing seam metal roof (SSMR) and wall systems.
