Litigation Data Analytics

It is becoming more common that litigated matters require the analysis of large sets of raw data to determine damages. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by vast amounts of data and to determine what is relevant. We help work through this sea of information by providing data analytics for law firms and lawyers. Specifically, we utilize multiple data analytics tools that allow us to effectively analyze large amounts of data and draw meaningful, supportable conclusions from it.

Litigation Data Analytics Project Work

Our team has completed many data analytics projects, including several examples below:

  • Analyzed bankruptcy fee applications submitted for court approval from 2002-2005 from approximately 40 professional firms totaling in excess of $1 billion. Data analytics were utilized to identify excessive time, duplicate time charges, staffing issues, duplicate expenses, excessive expenses and other irregularities.
  • Calculated damages incurred as a result of an alleged tax form error—the damages impacted nearly 10,000 taxpayers per year over a six-year period. The engagement required the computation of a variety of tax information (tax due, credits, penalties, interest and of course damages) for each taxpayer over the entire period.
  • Calculated damages for alleged overcharging of customers in connection with a lawsuit involving over 50,000 transactions over an eight-year period.
  • Employed data analytics to analyze 12 bank accounts and trace $1 billion of activity spanning over 35,000 transactions across 10 years in connection with a forensic accounting engagement. Data analytics was also utilized to analyze over 5,000 proof of claims, totaling in excess of $200 million in the related bankruptcy procedure.
